This 35-acre site just northeast of suburban Atlanta is owned by the Atlanta chapter of National Railway Historical Society and has been operating since 1970.

What is the Southeastern Railway Museum?
The Southeastern Railway Museum is Georgia’s official transport history museum. It features a variety of trains and rolling stock like the historic 1911 Pullman cars and classic steam locomotives. The museum also has a variety of railroad artifacts and an extensive archive to accompany its diverse collection of trains.
With its focus on the cultural, technological, and historical importance of transportation in the region, the museum preserves and displays related publications, memorabilia, and equipment.
The museum also operates the equipment to show visitors how they work and what it was like for the people who once handled them.
What’s there to do?
The Southeastern Railway Museum promises a fun-filled day for the whole family. Here, guests have a choice of getting a guided or self-guided tour of the museum. Visitors are free to explore the grounds and take a closer look at more than 90 pieces of transit equipment with plenty of authentic historic cars waiting to be rediscovered.
The fascinating interiors and lighting of the trains make for perfect photographs. Each train has its own vibe, with vivid and muted colors, a variety of textured fabric, and an assortment of designs that would look great on your social media posts.
To fully immerse yourselves in the history of railway, you’re welcome to ride in cabooses behind steam or diesel locomotives that run the length of the property.
Aside from its great museum and train rides, the Southeastern Railway Museum also has tons of events from the start of school to summer camps. Special occasions to take note of are the Train or Treat celebrating Halloween, and the Christmas Breakfast and Lunch with Santa, where kids can get a train ride with Santa Claus himself.

When does it open?
The museum is open Thursday to Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
From March to May and September to December, it is open from Wednesday to Saturday.
In June and July, it is open from Tuesday to Saturday.
The museum also opens its doors on select Sundays when it hosts special events.
Train rides are available from Thursday to Saturday, subject to weather conditions. Please check their site before making the trip so you’re sure the trains are up and running.
How much are admission fees?
The admission fee for the museum is:
- $10 for adults
- $8 for those aged 65 and above
- $7 for children aged 2 to 12
- Members of the National Railway Historical Society get a free ticket for every one they purchase
There is an additional fee if you want to ride the trains. The historic and miniature train rides each cost $3 – or $5 if you want to ride both.
